It was a test of nerves and Australian vice-captain Michael Clarke scored a classy century to guide his team against England in the third Ashes Test at Edgbaston here on Monday.

What does this result mean?

This draw keeps the Australian Ashes hopes very alive in Ashes 2009.  The result also meant the hosts England remained 1-0 up in the five-match series ahead of the fourth Test at Headingley, starting this Friday.
The Australian vice-captain was 103 not out in a the Australia’s second innings total of 375 for five, a lead of 262, when a draw was agreed between the two captains. In a 185-run stand with Marcus North who scored a valiant knock of 96 that took Australia to a safe path in this Test which otherwise looked dicey till the final day’s play. The duo had come together with Australia just 48 runs in front at 161 for four and still in danger of defeat after Mr. Cricket Michael Hussey finally found some form in the Ashes 2009 before being caught behind for 64 off paceman Stuart Broad before lunch.
Brief scores: Australia 263 and 375 for 5 ( Michael Clarke 103 n.o., M. North 96, Stuart Broad 2/38) drew with England 376.
