The first match at the Ferozeshah Kotla produced a tame end to toothless Sharks who caved in meekly against the stronger New South Wales team. It was a low-scoring game with the Sussex Sharks first bowling out NSW for 130 and then being restricted to 95 for 8, to suffer a 35-run loss in the Champions League Twenty20 clash.
The 131-run target set by the Aussie side was by no means a safe one, but Brett Lee and Co. ensured that they needn’t have worried as the Sussex batsman struggled to adjust to the conditions, managing just 95/8 in 20 overs.
Moises Henriques who scored an unbeaten 51 followed up his superb batting skills with a three-wicket haul to guarantee the Blues a berth in the second round along with the Cape Cobras, who had qualified the day before.
In the other big clash, Delhi Daredevils scored a comfortable 50-run win over Wayamba Eleven to stay alive in the tournament and also seal their place in the next round of the tournament.
The Daredevils’ batting led by Virender Sehwag (66) and Dinesh Karthik (61) helped the team pile 170 runs which their opposition could not manage. McGrath along with Nannes (4/24) made it a no contest, restricting the Sri Lankan side to 120/8. Only Mahela Jayawardene shone with a fine 53 and the rest just did not stand up to the challenge.
